Continuing its tradition of recognizing outstanding students in the Snellville area, the Snellville Commerce Club presented its 2010 FBLA/DECA Scholarships to Ms Emily Southard of Brookwood High School and Ms. McKenzie Parkins of South Gwinnett High School. Both recipients have shown academic success, community service and a drive towards entrepreneurship with their participation in FBLA/DECA. Each will have $1000 paid to their respective college to assist educational pursuits.
Ms. Southard will graduate from Brookwood with a 4.0 grade average, and will study Sports Management at the University of Georgia. She placed second in the county for the DECA sports marketing competition, among other accomplishments, and was active in the community through the Brookwood Community Softball Camp and Operation Christmas Child.
Ms. Parkins also plans to attend UGA, where she hopes to earn a degree in Business Management. She received the Statesman Award from DECA, and has been an officer in South Gwinnett's Student Council, DECA and FBLA. She has worked in the community serving in GUIDE and Diamonds in the Rough.
Club Co-President Jimmy Norton said, "The Gwinnett County school system is one of the best in the country, and the South Gwinnett and Brookwood clusters are among the best in Gwinnett. We are proud of our graduates from the Snellville area.”Add to Favorites
